Sycamore Community School District 427 Names Dr. Maurice Davis as Chief Academic Officer

Sycamore Community School District 427 is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Maurice Davis as the district's new Chief Academic Officer (CAO), effective July 1, 2026.

Dr. Davis brings extensive experience in educational leadership, strategic planning, and organizational learning. Throughout his career, he has focused on building systems that support student achievement and equitable outcomes for all learners.

"I am truly humbled to have an opportunity to be a part of this learning community," said Dr. Davis. "I'm excited to get into classrooms and share in the experience of working with both our staff and students."

Most recently, Dr. Davis served as Chief Strategy Officer for Freeport School District 145, where he led the district's organizational learning and continuous improvement efforts. In this role, he developed a comprehensive School Quality Framework, coached school leadership teams, facilitated leadership development for administrators, and presented strategic initiatives to the Board of Education.

Prior to serving as Chief Strategy Officer, Dr. Davis was the Assistant Director of Interventions and Inclusion for Freeport School District 145, where he oversaw school improvement systems and led professional learning initiatives focused on data-informed decision-making and student success.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Davis served as Executive Director of Schools for Rockford Public Schools District 205, where he supervised and coached school principals while supporting districtwide improvement efforts across multiple schools.

Dr. Davis began his career in education as a Social Studies teacher with Chicago Public Schools before serving as a History teacher in Rockford Public Schools. His classroom experience and passion for teaching and learning inspired him to pursue educational leadership, where he has spent his career helping schools and educators reach their full potential.

Dr. Davis earned a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership and Administration from Northern Illinois University in 2024. He also holds a Master of Education in Superintendency and Educational System Administration from Northern Illinois University, a Master's degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Grand Canyon University, and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Northern Illinois University.

As Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Davis will provide leadership for curriculum, instruction, assessment, professional learning, and student achievement initiatives across the district. He will work closely with administrators, teachers, staff, students, and families to support the district's mission of empowering all learners to succeed in their world.
