Next Director of Instructional Technology and Director of Transportation Announced

Next Director of Instructional Technology and Director of Transportation Announced
Sycamore Community School District 427 is pleased to announce the next Director of Instructional Technology and Director of Transportation.

The district has appointed Dr. Phoebe Balentyne as the Director of Instructional Technology. Balentyne will replace Roxanne Horton, who will retire at the end of this contract year. Balentyne will begin these responsibilities on July 1, 2022.

Balentyne has worked for the District for the past 14 years. She began her teaching career as a Spartan Reach Assistant at Sycamore Middle School in the fall of 2007 while attending Northern Illinois University to earn her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education. Upon graduation, she took on the position of Math Teacher at Sycamore High School and later added the role of Math Technology Coach. She currently serves as the Instructional Technology Coach for Sycamore High School.

“I am grateful to have been involved in Sycamore Schools for almost fifteen years, and I am thrilled to be able to serve our community in an even bigger way in my new role,” said Dr. Phoebe Balentyne. “I look forward to empowering all learners to succeed in their world through instructional technology.”

Balentyne went on to earn her Master of Science in Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Northern Illinois University and then her Doctor of Education in School Improvement from the University of West Georgia, where she specialized in K-12 Online Learning. She is currently finishing her Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education. She has also served as an instructor focusing on educational technology for Northern Illinois University and the University of West Georgia.

“We are thrilled to announce Dr. Balentyne as our next Director of Instructional Technology. So much has evolved in this field, and we have made significant advancements in technology in our classrooms over the last few years,” said Steve Wilder, Superintendent of Schools. “Dr. Balentyne’s experience, expertise as an instructional coach, and existing relationships in our district will fit perfectly as we look to build on the strong foundation throughout our district.”

Lacey Lantz has been selected to serve as the Director of Transportation. Lantz has served in various school district positions for the past 19 years. She joined the Sycamore Community School District in 2013 in the Counseling Office as the Registrar, Office Assistant, and Master Scheduler. In 2017, she was appointed to the position of Executive Assistant to Assistant Superintendent for Business Services. Most recently, she also took on the role of Student Data and Information Systems Specialist in January 2022.

“The Sycamore School District has created many opportunities for me to learn and grow both professionally and personally,” said Lacey Lantz. “I am proud to have the opportunity to shine a spotlight on the amazing people that make up the Transportation Department. Their dedication to the families in this district is truly humbling.”

Lantz earned her Bachelor of Arts in Business Management Information Systems from Southern New Hampshire University. Her vast experience and knowledge of our school district will make her a great asset to the administration team. She began her responsibilities on April 28, 2022.

“Transportation has faced some of the biggest challenges in every school district over the last few years, primarily due to an increasing shortage of bus drivers, and yet it remains one of the most important facets of what we do,” said Steve Wilder. “Throughout her time in our district, Mrs. Lantz has demonstrated the ability to learn quickly, create organizational structures, and problem-solve to overcome challenges in multiple roles. We’re excited for her to bring those skills to our Transportation Department to help us continue to provide the best service possible.”
