New Teacher Feature - Part 2

We’re excited to welcome our newest certified staff members to Sycamore Community School District 427! As they begin their journey with us, we are taking the opportunity to introduce you to the educators who will be helping our students learn, grow, and thrive throughout the 2026-27 school year.

This is Part 2 of our New Teacher Features, where you’ll get to know our new teachers a little better through a Q&A highlighting their backgrounds, experiences, interests, and what they’re looking forward to most about joining our district. We invite you to meet the newest members of our school community!

Mrs. Stefanie Rich

CTE/Allied Arts at Sycamore Middle School

What's the most interesting job that you have ever had?
The most interesting job I’ve ever had was working at Tammen Treeberry Farm. It was a blueberry farm in the summer and a Christmas tree farm in the winter.

What school memory from when you were a student still impacts you today?
The memory that has impacted me the most was placing third in the Illinois Project Runway contest for teens with a dress I made. I was awarded a sewing machine. I credit my interest in sewing to my middle school and high school FCS teachers.

Why did you choose to become a teacher?
I chose to become a CTE teacher because I wanted to equip students with practical life skills and help them discover interests that will prepare them for future success in both their personal and professional lives.

What is your favorite thing about Sycamore so far?
My favorite thing about Sycamore is the feeling of home. We moved to Sycamore 12 years ago and immediately felt a sense of belonging. You know it's a special place when you hear so many people say they were born and raised in Sycamore and are now raising their own families here. It speaks volumes about the pride, respect, and strong sense of community that make this town so special.

What do you like to do in your free time?
Run, read, play the piano, and spend time outdoors with my family.

What's the most interesting job that you have ever had?
Project Management for Construction and Dry Utilities

What school memory from when you were a student still impacts you today?
Playing math games with my 8th grade math teacher.

Why did you choose to become a teacher?
I love math and helping kids.

What is your favorite thing about Sycamore so far?
Friendly staff and the Sycamore Pumpkin Run.

Miss Allison Legrenzi

English Teacher at Sycamore High School

What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy traveling with my family and friends, running/exercising, and going to concerts!

What's the most interesting job that you have ever had?
The most interesting job I have ever had was working at a public swimming pool. While I did not have the role everyone wanted as a high school student: lifeguard, I was part of the morning "clean up" crew. My day started bright and early before the pool even opened, cleaning the 12-foot pool with a handheld vacuum, goggles, and a snorkel.

What school memory from when you were a student still impacts you today?
It is difficult to choose just one school memory, but deciding to stay involved in marching band had a lasting impact on my life. Marching band taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, teamwork, and commitment. Through countless hours of practice, performances, and competitions, I learned what it means to be part of a supportive community and developed friendships that I still cherish today.

Being a music student was incredibly meaningful to me, and those experiences helped shape the educator I am today. Some of my favorite memories as a student were made on the field, surrounded by peers and teachers who encouraged one another to be their best!

What is your favorite thing about Sycamore so far?
My favorite thing about Sycamore, and something that stood out to me from the moment I walked through the doors, is the welcoming community. Everyone is willing to help and genuinely wants to see others succeed. The Sycamore community is supportive and close-knit, making it easy to feel at home and excited to come to school each day!

What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, gardening, reading, cooking, and cheering on my kids as they participate in their sports and activities.

What's the most interesting job that you have ever had?
The most interesting job that I have had was working as a media buyer and planner for a national advertising agency.

What school memory from when you were a student still impacts you today?
I will always remember those who believed in me and saw my potential, encouraging me to take risks, embrace new challenges, and try again even after setbacks.

Why did you choose to become a teacher?
I believe that all students, regardless of their ability, deserve a teacher who believes in their potential and is willing to invest the time and effort needed to help them succeed.

Mrs. Brittany Ferguson

English Teacher at Sycamore High School

What do you like to do in your free time?
Watch movies and sports (football, baseball, and NCAA basketball)

What school memory from when you were a student still impacts you today?
I was invited to my third grade teacher's wedding along with the rest of my third grade class.

Why did you choose to become a teacher?
I enjoy having a positive impact on students and seeing their growth from beginning of the year to the end of the year.

What is your favorite thing about Sycamore so far?
Everyone is so friendly and welcoming
