On April 1, 2025, the Sycamore Community School District 427 community will once again have the opportunity to vote on the Board of Education At Large Referendum. This referendum proposes transitioning the election process for Board of Education members from a township-based system to an at-large format. Currently, no more than three members of the Board of Education can be elected from any one congressional township within the district, as mandated by Section 5/10-10.5 of the School Code.
If approved, this change would allow any eligible resident within the district’s boundaries to run for a seat on the Board, regardless of their township of residence. To be clear, all board members would still need to reside within the district's boundaries.
