Board Meeting Cancellation: December 5, 2025

Dear Sycamore Community School District 427 community, 

The Sycamore Board of Education has been publicly preparing for superintendent candidate interviews to be held in December. In keeping with that plan, the Board posted the required 48-hour notice for an interview meeting scheduled for 12/05/2025.

On the advice of our executive search firm, the Board intended to conduct these interviews at an offsite location in order to avoid disrupting the workday at the administration building. All hard-copy postings and online notices correctly identified this offsite location. Out of an abundance of caution with the interpretation of OMA law, requirement for a hard-copy posting of the physical agenda at the meeting location was called into question. This came to my attention shortly before the meeting was to be called to order and on the advice of the board attorney, I decided to not convene the meeting. 

The interviews, planned to be held in closed session in compliance with OMA exemptions, are customary for personnel matters and consistent with the guidance of our executive search firm. Notice of the forthcoming special meeting will be conducted in the same manner. The Board recognizes that selecting the next superintendent is a critical decision for our community and is committed to ensuring that the hiring process follows all legal requirements and best practices.

Information about the rescheduled meeting date will be shared as soon as it is finalized. We appreciate the understanding of our community and the continued interest and engagement of our prospective candidates.
